The anti-lock brake control system of the vehicle has an electric motor, an accumulator and a solenoid valve, and repeats open and close control of the solenoid valve to prevent wheel locking. In the conventional anti-lock brake control system, the electronic control unit generally determines an optimum brake pressure to be applied to the pair of wheels based on a wheel speed of the pair of wheels, and the slip ratio. The electronic control unit also controls the amount of electric power to be applied to the electric motor to generate an electric field. The electric field is controlled in response to the wheel speed and the slip ratio. The electronic control unit detects a wheel speed and a slip ratio from a rotation velocity of the wheel and a rotation angle of a wheel speed sensor. A method of controlling an anti-lock brake system, which improves operation characteristics of a vehicle by detecting a maximum driving torque characteristic of a vehicle and determining whether the braking of the vehicle should be controlled based on the detected maximum driving torque characteristic, has been recently proposed.
